The River And Me

By the bank of the river I rejoiced,
gazing in it's restless flow.
Some branches of trees
her carried with him
and suddenly I heard his voice.

Have I not seen you when you were young?
Did you have children with you?
Did I see you with a friend,
and heard the songs that you sung?
Who are you?

I nod my head, I wave my hand.
Yes, you are right, that was me.
I stood on your bank for many years,
my dreams floating with you,
wondering where they will end.

And now, I am here standing,
my hair with silvery threads,
you the same, just rushing by
new adventures waiting,
while my journey soon might be ending.

Thanks, river, for being here by the bend.
I take you with me in my dreams,
I see you on a dusty road,
I hear you when sirens scream.
You always will be my friend.
