From the druidic witch's kitchen: A fantastic delicacy

For all halflings and those who would like to become one, here are the instructions for a cave cake á la Hobbitsche.
 

Ingredients:

- 100-125 grams Shire butter.

- 125 grams of sugar.

- 3-4 pigeon eggs.

- 1 teaspoon salt.

- 200 grams wheat flour.

- 2 teaspoons baking powder.

- 2 teaspoons brandy.

- 1-4 tablespoons eggnog.

- 5 apples

- 750 gram cherries
 

Preparation:

Cream butter, flour and eggs. Then the sugar, salt and brandy should be added. Continue stirring for half an hour, then stir in the baking powder for 15 minutes. Leave the delicious mixture to stand for 1 hour. Then knead by hand and add so much eggnog that the dough falls heavily from the handle. Then pour the mixture into a greased springform pan and smooth it out.

For the topping, peel and quarter the apples and then soak them in rum for half a day. Wash and pit the cherries and then soak them in vodka for half a day as well. Place both fruits as a topping on the pastry so that the image of a hobbit's cave is represented. Preheat the oven for 10 minutes and then bake at 175-195°C for 45 minutes.

After eating this cake you will feel at least as confused as Bilbo in Rivendell. Provided, of course, that the kitchen hasn't blown up in your face beforehand and you don't end up in hospital with alcohol poisoning.
