Violence
Where does this violence arise,
That makes us strike with words and lies?
That floods the endless world online
With poison few would dare design
Within the daylight of real life,
Face to face in human strife.
Those who speak of human pain,
Of wounds, injustice, fear, and shame,
Are mocked with ridicule and spite,
Assaulted in the public light,
Until their voices fade away
And courage slowly starts to fray.
Of course the bully feels so strong,
Convinced that he can do no wrong.
The man who bows in daily fear
Turns tyrant when no threat is near.
History has shown this breed before:
They crush the weak to feel much more.
And when stupidity and hate
Begin to dominate the state,
While others silently stand by
And hope the storm will pass them by,
The train has long since left the track,
No easy road will lead us back.
Then misanthropes obtain their reign,
And darkness grows from fear and pain.
What once seemed hard, yet still humane,
Becomes a night of loss and shame.
