Wendy C. Barton

To Death

I've never been so low
as the night in the tub
so cold and alone
setting the perfect tone
so close to the edge
yet, not willing to step off
this dimly lit stage

the feeling overcomes me, again
pierced deeper twice before
tried it all, in vain
What keeps me hanging on?
What helps me cope?
What's left to believe in?
What's left to keep hope in?

I have everything
Yet, I have nothing
Empty, nothing to feel
Wounded, so much to heal
the ground has been taken from under me
I'm sinking,
one breath closer...
