Canta Libre

Soft rain ispurling

in silver curtains

on wet roads.

Canta libre

is carrying me back

through those curtains

ten years ago.

See your hand

presenting me

the first record

with songs

of love.

I shared  with you

tender hours

up to the day

our ways

branched off.

Still today stands

a transparent

blooming tree

on the way

of my heart.

Canta libre,

song of the freedom

in which my mind

may fly to

those tree,

sit down

like a bird

and sing

to an endless

streaming fountain.

This poem is dedicated to a friend in my youth who presented me a long playing  record of Neil Diamond containing the song “Canta Libre”.

Canta Libre

Sanfter Regen

perlt in silbernen

Vorhängen

auf feuchte

Straßen.

Canta Libre

bringt mich

durch diese Vorhänge

zehn Jahre zurück.

Sehe, wir mir

deine Hand

die erste Platte

mit Liebesliedern

überreicht.

Ich teilte mit dir

zärtliche Stunden

bis zu dem Tag,

als sich unsere

Wege trennten.

Noch heute steht

ein durchsichtiger

blühender Baum

am Wege

meines Herzens.

Canta Libre,

Lied der Freiheit,

in dem meine

Seele fliegt

zu jenem Baum,

sich dort niederlässt

wie ein Vogel

und singt zu einem

endlos fließenden

Strom.

Dieses Gedicht ist einem Jugendfreund gewidmet, der mir zum 18. Geburtstag eine LP von Neil Diamond schenkte, auf der auch der Song “Canta Libre” zu hören war.
