Between bed and bath
It overtakes me,
looks into the mirror before me
and lets run
in steady stream
the words
I don‘t want,
don‘t know,
don‘t understand.
At the breakfast table
when I gulp down my coffee
It‘s already there
pouring out new nourishment:
words, phrases, words
in steady flux.
On my way to work
It accompanies me in the car
running clear through my thoughts
overlaying the reactions to traffic
and suddenly stops -
just in time
before I switch off the engine
take my bag and the keys
to start work
undisturbed.
For now I escaped
the words,
the phrases and verse
that rule over me
from dawn to work
and from dusk into sleep.
