At the Back Porch
At the Back Porch
Across the garden shadows come and go.
The evening clouds are drifting low
and moisture fills the air.
We sit below the cloudy sky
waiting till dark will come. We try
to find some stars. We stare
to meet between the sailing clouds a light
which falls and – falling in its flight –
warns us to be aware
of our growing love. We do not know
how to confess. But fingers know to
combine in tender care.
